AVI-8 4070 - Hawker Harrier II
This AV-4070 model from the Hawker Harrier II collection is called Ace of Spades and is engraved on the bottom of the case. This watch refers to the Marine Attack Squadron 231, also known as VMA-231. This American squadron based in North Carolina is represented by an Ace of Spades present on their aircraft, which can be seen drawn on the case back glass. These soldiers were using the second generation Hawker Harrier aircraft with the famous McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II model which was put into service in the 1970s with the role of support and reconnaissance in the air. This aircraft was one of the best fighters of the Gulf War in 1991. The AVI-8 model is perfectly inspired by the history of this squadron and the history of war aviation.
Case : Its 316L stainless steel case measures 46 millimetres in diameter in its round shape. It is surrounded by a crown engraved with a star in reference to the US AIR FORCE located at 2 o'clock. It will enable you to set the hours and minutes and to wind the automatic movement if necessary. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal completes this exceptional model. The case back is covered with a glass revealing an aircraft rotor echoing the rotors of the turbines of the Roll Royce Pegasus engine in the Harrier aircraft.
Dial: The dial of this model is composed of many details referring to the planes of the "Marine Attack Squadron 231" squadron. One can distinguish a semicircle with the minutes from 0 to 20 which represents the curve of the Harrier plane's exhaust. Only two sword-shaped hands dominate this dial; they are covered, as are the indexes, with luminous Swiss pigment to make them visible in low light. Two dials are located in the centre, the larger one displays the hours over 24 hours and the second one in the background displays the seconds. In the dial background, clear lines refer to the geometric shapes of the air intake system on the side of the aircraft. Every detail counts for AVI-8, which is even inspired by the screws and rivets of the aircraft's cabin on the dial. The name of the Harrier II model is embossed in relief on each dial and reflects the authenticity of the product.
Movement: This watch is equipped with a Japanese Miyota/Citizen 2-hand automatic movement. This 8247 movement is a quality reference that will perfectly accompany your watch in its use.
Strap: A genuine leather strap accompanies this watch. It is inspired by the materials found inside war planes. Black topstitching gives a military accent to this resistant bracelet which closes with a pin buckle.
Water-resistance: This AVI-8 watch is water-resistant to 5 ATM, i.e. a resistance of 50 metres. This water-resistance corresponds to a resistance to perspiration, splashes, rain and partial immersion such as when swimming or showering. However, we recommend that you avoid contact with water for optimal conservation of the materials.
